Now that the Virginia General Assembly has finally agreed to expand coverage through the Affordable Care Act, the Sinclair Clinic, and others like it throughout the state, can continue and expand programs to address public health problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, childhood obesity, and substance abuse while also meeting the immediate health-care needs of their patients and their communities.

Recently, FauquierNow published “School officials battle teacher recruiting challenge.” Fauquier County schools should be lauded for the way that they have approached staffing in an era when teachers are in short supply. However, the fact is that, as good as the school system might be at hiring teachers, we, as the article indicates, are facing a teacher shortage.

Editor: Recently, Loudoun Now published “Loudoun Students’ SOL Scores Dip Slightly.” While scores did dip some, they are still quite high, and these high scores are a testament to our hardworking faculty and staff.  However, ask almost any teacher, and he or she will describe many of the shortcomings of state testing. And so, while yes, be proud, also be aware of what a test does and does not measure.
